What sort of things do you enjoy writing about?
I love writing stories with a twist! Otherwise I love writing that is emotive; something that will make a reader think or feel something so strongly that it leaves the story in their minds. For me, this ranges from fantasy to allegorical stories.
What's something you would like readers to take away from your stories?
If readers were to take anything from my work, I hope that it would be the memory of how they felt. I write in hopes that the reader will immerse themselves in the story and lose reality… if just for a few minutes.
What inspired you to start writing?
I’ve always been creating stories, even before I could use a pen! I’m glad to say these have improved tremendously since then, but my inspiration has been the same; I’m incredibly inspired by the world around me. Even when faced with writers block, if I needed inspiration, I would write what I could see or how I felt. Or I’d create a character to be in my position; it creates endless possibilities!
Tell us about your writing process.
On good days, I allow my mind to wonder, to dream of worlds and people that live solely in my mind, and paint that reality with words. On bad days I simply ask myself the question ‘what if…’
Which story did you enjoy writing most?
That’s a really hard question to answer, but I would have to say the story which was fuelled by the most inspiration… ‘when you left’. Although maybe one of my sadder stories (and earliest!) I thoroughly enjoyed the the process and how it turned out!
Do you have a favourite character from your stories?
If I had to choose a favourite character, it would have to be the unnamed character from my story ‘what’s so wrong with me’. Looking into a teenagers life and foreboding crisis once he realises that his crush likes boys too, it resonates with a teenagers experiences with first love and self acceptance.
Who are some of your favourite authors?
Like writing, I’ve been reading longer than I can remember! My first favourite authors were Jacqueline Wilson and Roald Dahl, and since then, I’ve been fascinated with authors such as Malorie Blackman, Bernardino Evaristo and Alice Oseman.
What do you think makes a good story?
Like I’ve said… a story with a good twist! But nevertheless, I firmly believe that any good story stays in the mind of the reader, captures a piece of their heart and forms strong connections with them. For me, storytelling is personal. When I write from my heart I hope that it goes to someone who needs it.
Can you tell us about any upcoming stories?
I have many drafts and ideas for stories I hope to be sharing soon… but no spoilers! But what I will say is that I’m working on something that isn’t a short story!
Why have you decided to publish on Novellea?
I have been writing short stories and novella’s for years, publishing some on sites and sending others to competitions… I’ve had no such luck. Especially after the pandemic, I really needed something to get me motivated to continue writing, with school and exam pressure building as well as poor health, I was slowly but surely losing my passion. Then one day, I came across Novellea, and decided to give it a go… I have not been disappointed yet. And I’ve been writing more then ever!
